The US is in the influenza peak season, as disease control centers (CDC) say “seasonal flu activity remains elevated and continues to grow across the country”.
Counts of issues differ from the state, however. Weekdo week, the CDC releases a map of the flu activity across the country.
The color coded map indicates the level of activity of each state, ranging from minimum to very high.
The most current map reflects data from Java that ends 8 February 2025.
The flu activity is currently the highest in New York City, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, South Carolina, Tennesses, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.
This is followed by Maine, Washington DC, North Carolina, George, Indiana, Arkansas, Luiziana, Oklahoma and Texas.
Just below this level, but still “very high” are New York State, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kolorado, Idaho, California, Mississippi, Alabama and Connecticut.
Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada, South Dakota, Florida, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Minnesota are all “high activity” countries.
North Dakota and Utah are classified as “moderate”.
Montana, Hawaii and Alaska are the only states that fall into the “low activity” category.
Anita Patel, Pharmd and Vice -President of the Pharmacy Health Services at Walgreens in Atlanta said the flu normally spreads to the southern countries.
“This is due to a combination of factors, including weather patterns, travel habits and population density, which can create ideal conditions for viruses to spread – although the overall influenza season usually reaches the peak during the most months of the most months Cold when people are spending more time inside, ”she told Fox News Digital.
“What we are seeing now is high activity in the southern countries, with some countries that had early diseases to recover, such as Florida, Alabama and Mississippi.”
The northern and western regions of the country are now climbing, pointed to Patel.
“Studies show that as it gets colder and drier, viruses like the flu travel better,” she said. “In winter, people often spend more time inside, usually near each other. This adult internal activity can make it easier to spread the virus. “
States with dense populations that are cold tend to have more transmission, the expert noted – “More people per capita makes social distance more difficult, plus [there is] More internal activity, so their rates are higher. “
The flu vaccination rate is also lower nationwide, Patel said.
“The flu vaccine can prevent people from getting sick, but most importantly, it can reduce the severity of symptoms if you get sick,” she told Fox News Digital.
“Reported reported abroad CDC data (people seeking caution because they are sick instead of staying at home),” Patel added. “With more people this year looking for care, lower vaccine levels can play even in the most intense season.”
