A school student died of a deadly brain tumor as his weight doubled in 16 months.
The mother of Luke Poga Sam, 42, initially attributed the rapid increase in nine -year weight in the absence of exercise during the blocking period.
But she was so worried that a nutritionist contacted.
And when Luke began to take the injured eyes he went for an optical that referred it to the OPHThalmology Department of Barnet Hospital.
He was diagnosed with a non -functional high -level glioma and died three years after his diagnosis.
A change in body shape can be a sign of a brain tumor.
Sam, a volunteer of the church, from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, said: “When the children returned to school around July 2021, parents commented that Luke looked different.
“He was always so small, so it was a noticeable change for all those who knew him.
“Immediately after that, he had problems with his eyes and rubbed them saying they were injured, and I knew there was something wrong.
â € œAktors said the tumor was large, but because it was scattered, they could not work. I remember I felt shocked.â € ™ € ™ €
When he was six, Luke was already wearing clothes intended for the elderly 11 to 12 years old.
After Sam continued to worry about her son’s weight, she led Luke to Tesco Opticans and referred to Ophthalmology at Barnet Hospital.
A MRI scan found an non -functionable brain tumor.
Sam, who is a mother for Daisy, 12, said: “I felt numb and could not get the information presented to me during the meeting. Luke had the combined treatment of radiotherapy and chemotherapy and lost weight.
“His gaze remained intact and for some time we enjoyed life as a family, while still sailing medical appointments.
“€ ™ ™ at the beginning of 2024, doctors said Luke was a terminal and, the fighter he was, he fought for months more than the doctors gave him.
Cancer was unfortunately very aggressive, and Luke died at Watford General Hospital on August 26, 2024.
Months later, in December, a 10-year-old girl in his school died of illness.
Now more than 300 staff and children from three to 11 at Summerswood Elementary School in Borehamwood are moving 10,000 steps daily in February to raise money for brain tumor research inspired by both students.
Sam is joining the challenge to help find a cure for all types of brain tumors, participating.
She said: â € œtil you are experiencing it, you do not know about brain tumors.
â € ™ € ™ I withdrew when I heard the statistics for brain tumors to kill more children and adults under the age of 40 since the registrations began in 2002.â € ™

“They can differ from the patient to the patient and be everything from headaches, vary in personality and, unusually, in the case of Luke, vary in body shape.

“We are grateful for Sam for the sharing of Luke’s history. Really destructive to hear that two so young children have lost their lives to brain tumors.
